Although my blog entries have been few, my thanks have been many over the past month. In particular, one source of encouragement has brought life and light to nearly everyday of October.
On my birthday, September 25th, my sweet friend, Rachel Sperr, pledged to send me 25 letters over the course of the following weeks. (Just in case the connection isn’t clear enough–I’m 25, and I was born on the 25th, hence, the 25 letters. Golden.) From daily life reflections to hilarious memories to painful realities, Rachel’s writings have brought refreshment and vitality to my days. I’ve recently been mulling the concept of oases, or pools in the desert, in my mind. With the ins and outs and the ups and downs of life, any traveler is bound to feel dry and drained. However, I believe God provides proverbial oases–whether that be in the form of a person, a circumstance, or an activity–to see us through.
For this current season, Rachel has been one such pool, as she has been for many seasons past. From college to career, in relationships and out of relationships, near or far, I’ve got a friend for all seasons. Although context changes, “Best friends are like bathing suits. Once you find one that makes you feel good about yourself, you want to keep it forever.”
